This BART project adopts a railway signaling system that makes use of the telecommunications between the train and trackside equipment for the traffic management and infrastructure control. CBTC allows for real-time adjustments of speed and braking to allow for safe train separation while allowing trains to get closer to each other which equates to increased capacity and reduced wait times between trains. As a subconsultant, UNICO is responsible for management of overall program systems engineering activities and supports program integration, verification and validation, and configuration management, which confirms that the Contractor’s procedures and activities are aligned with program requirements and provide the required outputs.
